NYC summers can be brutal! We scuttle around seeking out some form of air conditioning. My favorite is the subway trains. When I am out-n-about doing stuff in the city, and hot as heck, a subway ride is the best. Most of time, subway cars are almost like walk-in freezers. This Rosemary Grapefruit Limeade Infused with sprigs of rosemary and sweetened with honey makes perfect sense on a day like today, when temps are in the high 90s.
One of the most difficult parts of chemotherapy is the food. Of course the million side effects are not good either, but sometimes the eating was challenging. I practically ate every unhealthy thing I could get my hands on. My go-to was Stouffer’s Lasagna. While it did provide emotional comfort, it wasn’t the healthy choice I needed. That’s why I do this work. I would like to take that lasagna and create a healthier (and yummier) version. Wow, did I digress! These kinds of drinks would be absolutely perfect for post-chemo tummies. There is acidity in these, but not enough to cause alarm. The nutrients in this beverage is just what our bodies need while we heal.

How to make Rosemary Grapefruit Limeade
Rosemary is one of those herbs that is so versatile but how often to we typically forget that it exists. Well, maybe not the pros but us home cooks and bakers sometimes do. Ok, I do!
Grapefruit: For this beverage I used red grapefruit. It has a bold bitter taste that softens with the help of the sweetness of the grapefruit.
Limes: I used fresh, ripened limes for this beverage.
H2O: I used filtered water from our neighborhood market. Filtered water wont have all those chemicals like tap water does.
Honey is the sweetener I love to use in these refreshing drinks. Especially when paired with citrus. YUM!
The reason behind the citrus and honey combo
Besides honey and citrus tasting the yummiest together, there are certain health benefits that come with these two natural beauties. When you have congestion from a cold, the citrus cuts the congestion and the honey soothes the throat. Raw honey still retains it’s natural properties such as bee pollen and antioxidants. Honey is also an anti-bacterial. Honey is even known to help with acid reflux!
PrintRosemary Grapefruit Limeade
- Total Time: 20 Minutes
- Yield: 2 – 16 ounce servings 1x
Description
I refreshing rosemary infused grapefruit limeaid with just a touch of honey,
Ingredients
- 3 red grapefruit
- 2 limes
- 2–3 rosemary sprigs
- 1/4 cup honey
- 32 ounces of purified water
- Ice
Instructions
- Squeeze the grapefruit and lime juice into a large glass pitcher.
- Add the honey to the juice and stir until well incorporated.
- Pull off the needles from one rosemary sprig and add it to the juice and honey mixture. Very gently, give the needles a quick muddle, not to release to much of the oils. Stir.
- Mix in the water.
- Toss some ice into a glass and pour yourself a refershing beverage. Garnish with rosemary sprigs.
Notes
I prefer glass pitchers because plastic containers usually taint the beverage with a chemical taste.
Careful not to muddle the rosemary needles to much. You will get a very bitter undrinkable beverage. You can even put some rosemary into a container of honey and let it sit for a few days for some delcious rosemary honey. Then use that instead of muddling the needles.
